Umme is a Muslim woman who received her initial loan from Home Makers in 2006. As of January 2007, she only had one payment left on her loan. Umme received her training through the Home Makers program run by Margaret Ahmed. Because of certain beliefs within her religion, Umme is not allowed to leave her home without her husband. She attends the training as often as she is able on the third Saturday of each month.
Umme makes bars of laundry soap that is very popular and useful, as well as pomade or palm, candles and hair cream. Her children take the products she makes across the street from their home and sell them to the local general shops. With the profit that Umme makes each week (on average 2,000 Naira or $16) she is proud to support her family by buying food and transportation for her children to attend school.
